Welcome to the Ardeer Partnership

We hope this webpage provides you with useful information on the redevelopment of the Peninsula at Ardeer. The coming years will see this expanse of vacant, brownfield land redeveloped through a mix of new land uses.

Background

NPL Estates Ltd, one of the UK's leading brownfield regeneration companies has acquired the 1700 acre site at Ardeer in Ayrshire in 2002. Through a Partnership Agreement with North Ayrshire Council, and following the appointment of significant surveys, analysis and consultation a Masterplan was submitted to NAC Planning in 2007.

NPL have worked through the issues raised from this submission with their planning consultants Keppie and environmental consultants Enviros and submitted a revised Masterplan to NAC comprising:

  • Retention of 1000 jobs;
  • Creation of employment land for a further 1600;
  • New vehicular and pedestrian links;
  • Tourism facilities;
  • Golf Course and Marina;
  • Restoration of hundreds of hectares of derelict land; and
  • Residential areas.

The Council, whilst not formally approving the Masterplan, supports large parts of the proposed strategy and following a review of the Local Plan, the Masterplan concept has recently been revised, largely to reduce the level of housing to a level acceptable to the Council.  Its revised terms are currently being promoted by NPL and a planning application for the Golf Course and assorted housing is being prepared for submission during 2011.

Consultation

Several formal and many informal community consultations have taken place since acquisition of the site, shaping and moulding the plans to those currently displayed.  Formal consultation on the Golf application is envisaged for spring 2011.

Success

Outwith the Local Development Plan process we have been successful in receiving planning subject to a section 75 agreement on our East Garnock Sand & Gravels which will create 33 full-time jobs and secure environmental benefits for generations through the creation of a Wetland Park.  Our mineral capabilities are detailed under the Sand & Gravels section of our website.

In addition we have just completed year 1 of a potential seven year Green Waste Composting Contract for North Ayrshire Council (yes your brown bins!) which not only enables the local authority to meet its recycling targets but provides remediation materials for the site and the potential to expand the facility bringing additional jobs.

Future Timetable

Following the responses to our Environmental Impact Statement screening and scoping letter we are preparing to carry out the relevant surveys and other works required for this in the first half of 2011 with an application in principle to follow thereafter.  Details of these and the consultation elements will appear on this website in due course.
